Paksa: WM5 Sync Control and Charging
A week or so back, another poster noted that it was possible to control
WM5's "constant sync" behaviour using the new "mobile device" network
connection icon.

What follows are some observations having used this ability for a week.

To review, if you need to control when WM5 devices sync and do not like
"continual sync" as the only WM5 option;

Open Network Connections

Highlight the mobile devices icon, right click it and create a desktop
icon for the connection.

The Activesync WM5 connection can then be toggled ON/OFF by
right-clicking the desktop shortcut and selecting Disable/Enable

The Disable/Enable persists between connections... if you Disable the
connection and remove the device, the connection will remain disabled
when the device is subsequently reconnected.

If the device is connected and the connection is Enabled, the device
will both sync and charge.

If the connection is Disabled and the device is ON, the device DOES NOT
CHARGE.

If the connection is Disabled and the device is OFF, the device will charge.

If the connection is Disabled and the device is OFF when connected the
device will remain off and charge.  There will be a number of
"connection bongs" but WCESCOMM will not relaunch if it has been terminated.

Once the connection is Disabled, the WCESCOMM process can be terminated,
manually, by a command line or batch file or within taskmanager and it
will not restart with the device off, connected and charging.

The above was observed using a JasJar which charges via a mini usb
connection.  I would assume if your WM5 device allows connecting a
charger in conjuction with the sync cable that the charging anomolies
noted above would not occur.

Hope this is of value to those who value their computer's resources ;-)
