Well, the iPAQ 211 has, as with all HP phones / standalone PDA's, a much
more capable BT stack - that is, Widcomm (Broadcom) - as opposed to the
MS BT stack coming with all HTC models.
Unfortunately, it seems the MS BT stack, while, as of version 6.1, it
does have a selectable Bluetooth option when setting up a connection,
results in trying to dial the passed pseudo-number (e.g., *99***#1) as a
non-pseudo number when using a GPRS / 3G modem via Bluetooth. That is,
the BT dial-up is completely messed up. Which isn't really some to
wonder about - after all, very few people would want to use Bluetooth
from a device that already has a GSM phone inside.
At least this is what I've encountered on my HTC Universal runnning a
cooked ROM version (with the latest Tomal version; see http://forum.xda-
developers.com/showthread.php?t=454906 ). I've also tested this on the
HTC Wizard with mfrazzz's XDA Mobile 6 Release 3 (see http://forum.xda-
developers.com/showpost.php?p=2077663&postcount=9 ); however,it
completely lacks the BT DUN client.
Unfortunately, I couldn't test this on more machines (they're either at
home or loaned to some of my colleagues). Nevertheless, based on what I
saw, it seems not even the MS BT stack coming with 6.1 is capable of
seamless packet-based (non-dial up) connections via BT when operating in
client mode (as opposed to the server mode).
